About Karen Tankersley
Karen Tankersley has trained school coaches for over 15 years on how to help teachers become heroes and champions for their students. She has worked as a teacher, school coach, principal, and district office administrator.
She is a reading and gifted specialist and has taught all grades from 2nd grade through graduate school. During her time at the district level, she supervised and trained the school coaches who worked in the district schools and served as a coach for the instructional coaches.
Karen is a prolific author and has published 4 books on literacy for educators. She has also published books for parents as well as 9 books for students. She has also published articles in educational journals such as ASCD's Educational Leadership magazine.She is the author of the Threads of Reading Series on teaching reading. In the past couple of years, she has also published 6 books for children in grades 4-8 in her Exploring Nature Book Series. In these books for students, Karen was not only the author but she also was the photographer of all of the animals and nature scenes in her books.
Karen has provided professional development to schools across the nation on school improvement, effective literacy practices, and implementing effective literacy and school coaching programs. She has produced over 15 courses for educators on topics such as literacy, teaching special needs students, and instructional coaching.
Karen currently lives in Hawaii with her husband and Yorkshire Terrier. She enjoys writing, reading, and traveling with her husband and Yorkie baby, Reggie.
